6 Scariest Prisoners That Will Surely Give You The Creeps
Published February 20, 2023
The world could be a terrible place, and having to deal with peculiar individuals can add to that unattractiveness. Unfortunately, these people are those who committed terrible crimes; fortunately, most get imprisoned. Prisons are notoriously terrifying not only because of the inmates’ terms and punishment but also because of the prisoners themselves. Here are 12 of the scariest prisoners you would not want to meet.
6 Scariest Prisoners
Inmates are not often considered to be pleasant people to spend time with. Yet, in spite of this, the large majority of the people who committed terrible crimes started as normal people. These prisoners may not be the scariest looking inmates, but not these prisoners are scary!
1. Aileen Carol Wuornos, A.K.A. “The Florida Highway Killer”
Aileen Carol Wuornos was born on February 29, 1956, in Rochester, Michigan, as Aileen Carol Pittman. During her youth, Wuornos had multiple sexual partners, and it includes her brother. In her adult years, she turned to a life of crime and prostitution, and she was arrested for various criminal offenses.
Wuornos killed for the first time in November 1989, and she killed six more within the following year. She would typically accuse the men she dated of rape and then shot them at point-blank range. Reports indicate that Wuornos was convicted and sentenced to death via lethal injection.
Wuornos’ victims were men aged between 40-65. She would tempt them with the promise of sex before shooting them to death with a revolver. She sometimes undresses them after and takes their personal belongings to sell later.
2. Ronnie McPeters
Ronnie McPeters received a prison sentence for the murder of 27-year-old Linda Pasnick. He accomplished this by assaulting her before shooting her five times. For his crimes, he was transported to the Fresno jail, where he spent the next nine months assaulting jailers and other prisoners. He said to the psychiatrist who was helping him he was shooting a commercial.
His odd behavior continued when he was sent to death row at San Quentin Prison. He would smear feces on the walls, floor, and himself. He speaks to a nonexistent wife and children and claims to be tortured by the inner voices of Linda Pasnick’s relatives. State prosecutors eventually argued Ronnie was mentally disabled to be executed, which sparked a legal fight to get him off death row.
3. Michael Swango, A.K.A. “Dr. Death”
Dr. Michael Swango, like all other medical professionals, took an oath to do no harm. However, he violated this oath numerous times since he was found guilty of killing four individuals and potentially up to 60 while working as a physician and an EMT. Since his undergraduate days as a volunteering ambulance driver, Swango patients tended to die at a higher rate. Swango’s coworkers and other associates were severely ill after ingesting food he had access to or prepared. During his training in a hospital, he earned the title “Double-O Swango,” a reference to James Bond’s license to kill.
He may also have been to blame for the death of his fiancée, who killed herself, which may have been prompted by arsenic poisoning. He was eventually banned from all hospitals and schools of medicine in the United States. Patients continued to mysteriously die under his care in Zimbabwe, where he escaped to continue practicing medicine. To further his medical career, he committed many crimes of forgery and assault. Still, the U.S. and Zimbabwean governments eventually charged him, and he was given three life sentences in a row.

4. Dennis Rader, A.K.A. “BTK”
The Otero family of Wichita lost four members on January 15, 1974, when Dennis Rader (known by his alias BTK which means “Bind Them, Torture them and Kill them”) started a killing spree. He murdered the mother and father by strangling them, as well as two children by suffocating one and hanging the other. He stated during his trial that it was his sexual dream and even left sperm in the area.
Kathryn Bright, a 21-year-old woman, became Dennis Rader’s next victim following the Otero Family murders. Kathy was returning home when she found BTK waiting for her. Kevin, her brother, also accompanied her. BTK tied them up, but Kevin broke free, and BTK then shot him in the head. Kathy was stabbed to death, while Kevin managed to flee despite being shot.
In 1977, he murdered another person named Shirley Vian by tying her up, placing a sack over her head, and strangling her. Nine months after Shirley’s murder, 25-year-old Nancy Fox returned home and was murdered by BTK. He bound her legs and hands with handcuffs before strangling her using a belt.
In 1985, he murdered his neighbor Marine Hedge, who was 53. After killing her, BTK took photographs of her and wished to play with her body. In 1986, he murdered Vicky Wagerle, and in 1991, he murdered Dolores Davis, age 62, his final victim.
5. Andrei Chikatilo, A.K.A. “The Rostov Ripper”
Andrei Romanovich Chikatilo was born in the Ukrainian portion of the Soviet Union on October 16, 1936, during the reign of Stalin. During the years 1978–1990, he committed at least 52 murders.
In 1978, he developed pedophilic fantasies and began to spy on children. The same year, he took a nine-year-old girl hostage and stabbed her to death; this was his first known murder. He planned to assault her sexually, but his impotence prevented him from doing so.
In the twelve years that followed, Chikatilo committed over fifty murders. He targeted both genders of children and teenagers, as well as middle-aged women. Typically, he would approach and lure his victims to a nearby forest, bind them, and kill them to get sexual satisfaction.
He would regularly gouge their eyes, remove their tongues and genitals, rip out their stomachs, and chew off their noses. He also sometimes eats the remains and drinks the blood of his victims.
6. Rodney James Alcala, A.K.A. “The Dating Game Killer”
In 1943, Rodrigo was born in Texas. At age 17, he joined the U.S. Army, and he also served as a clerk for four years. Then, after a nervous breakdown, he got dismissed from the military after a psychiatric evaluation revealed he had an antisocial personality disorder.
The first known victim of Alcala was a girl aged eight. Alcala had beaten her using a rod and raped her, yet she survived despite suffering severe injuries. Alcala was then added to the FBI’s list of the ten most wanted individuals. Alcala was suspected of raping and strangling a flight attendant in 1971.
In 1978, Alcala appeared on the TV show “The Dating Game” as “Bachelor No. 1” and was introduced as a professional photographer. Alcala’s victims were females aged 8 to 31.
A 12-year-old girl and her decomposing body were his last known victims in 1979. During their search for Alcala in connection with the 1979 murder, the police obtained hundreds of photographs. In numerous pictures, the subjects are naked or wearing swimwear. He is believed to have murdered at least 130 women.
Alcala was imprisoned at California State Prison in Corcoran, California, and is considered one of its scariest prisoners. Alcala died of natural causes on July 24, 2021, at the age of 77, while awaiting execution for the murders for which he was convicted in California.
